Passion

An opera in 4 acts.
Music and libretto by Waundell Saavedra

Illustration of a winding road leading to three crosses on a hill, with the text "The road to Passion" above, in grayscale tones with red accents on the word "Passion."

Saavedra began composing Passion in 1993 (believe it or not!). What an undertaking this EPIC story has become. As most creative works go, it has not taken all of these years to write. It is just that life happens and projects get put on hold, etcetera, etcetera, and so on and so forth.

But the journey has been real. We had the first presentation of selected scenes back in 2006 and again in 2007 when Empire Opera officially began.

A group of performers holding hands on stage during a performance at a church or cathedral, with an audience watching in the foreground.

More scenes were completed and presented at the Soiree of 2009. And another performance of selected scenes was in 2014. As this work nears completion, another presentation is planned for 2025.

Seven women singers performing indoors, holding sheet music, with candles and a decorated table in front of them.
Four people standing in what appears to be a church or hall, with the man in the center speaking or singing, wearing black. The others are dressed in colorful attire, with one person holding a book or folder.

Converting the Passion story into a theatrical work is a joy and a pleasure. The characters truly come alive with dramatic scenes that one only reads in the Bible.
